Northwest Adventures
We just got back from our trip to Seattle and Portland. It was fun
hittin the road in "The Yeti" which is what we're calling our monster
white van. On the way to Seattle, we stopped at Mt. Rainier and
breathed fresh mountain air for a little while. We hiked around and got
a few photos. The Seattle show brought out a bunch of diehard fans, a
couple of em even came all the way from Spokane! We loved playing the
Tractor Tavern again, good times.
Portland was also a great success. We played two shows, one on Fri
night and one on Sat night. The crowds were incredible, the songs
soared in the auditorium, good times were had by all. We even made it
out to Cannon Beach for some R & R on the beach. A couple of band
members spent quite a while wading through tide pools inspecting the
bizarre creatures that emerge at low tide.
Thanks to everybody that came out to see us on our Northwest trek. We'll definitely be back soon!

RubberBand Bad-Boy Attitude Revealed
In a recent skirmish with the law, RubberBand bassist Ryan Tilby was pursued by a police cruiser until he was able maneuver his champagne-gold Nissan Maxima across 3 lanes of traffic to pull over. The officer then exited his cruiser and approached on foot, where Tilby, having rolled down his window, was desperately trying to keep his wits about him. After brief interrogation, it was ascertained that Tilby indeed had violated state speeding regulations and would be facing maximum penalty for said act.
In true RubberBand rock-star fashion, Tilby daringly produced ID and a complimentary RS&RB Bumper-Sticker, informing the officer of his intended destination and complimenting his utility belt. With his typical devil-may-care attitude, Tilby even brandished a half-eaten plate of oatmeal-raisin cookies, offering some to the officer.
The RubberBand has quite a reputation for being the "bad-boys of Provo", and this latest incident only reassures their fans that the RubberBand is tough; so tough that Tilby left the scene with only a verbal warning and one less oatmeal-raisin cookie. No further investigation in pending, and the officer was unavailable for comment.

Paul Cardall Benefit Concert
Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband, Kurt Bestor, Peter Breinholt, along
with other talented artists have scheduled a benefit concert for
their good friend Paul Cardall on Monday, April 6 at Cottonwood High School in Murray, UT. The “Living for
Eden Concert,” so named in honor of Cardall’s 3-year-old daughter, will
get underway at 7:30 p.m. A silent auction will precede the concert
beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Cardall, who was born 35 years ago with a
severe congenital heart defect, has been on the waiting list for a
heart transplant since last August. He has been limited in his ability
to support his family and to meet escalating medical expenses during
his prolonged illness. Seeing their friend’s condition, Cardall’s
colleagues have decided to do what they do best – make music and use
their talents to benefit Paul, his wife Lynnette and their daughter
Eden.
Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, March 11th at www.livingforeden.com

The RubberBand in Japan
The band is in the process of planning a tour to Japan. Mostly because there is nothing quite as cool as being "Big in Japan" and because several of the band members are really into sushi (not Craig) and some of them also build things with Japanese-like precision (Craig) and there is suspicion that one of the band members is in fact a robot (Craig). Stay tuned for more updates on future Japanese adventures!

The gauntlet is officially thrown down.
After decades of unspoken tension between Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand and the nationally acclaimed and award-winning a capella group T Minus 5, the gauntlet has finally been thrown down.
On stage, both bands have proven to be masters of their genres, winning fans and sharing stages - but behind the scenes, they have been drawing invisible lines in the sand for years. You see, musicality aside, each group claims to hold the title for Musical Artist Ultimate Frisbee Champions of the West (MAUFCOW). MAUFCOW, as you well know, is the Ultimate Frisebee duel of doom that dates back to the early seventies, when the Osmond Brothers trounced the BYU Men's Chorus is a 17-0 shutout. And now the rivalry lives on.
T Minus 5 has vowed to crush the RubberBand, and has even claimed repsonisibility for a late-night toilet-papering of the RubberBand van. The RubberBand has answered with this challenge: that the two bands meet in a public place during daylight hours to settle this matter once and for all - with a frisbee. The clock is ticking.

Shupe gets press for founding MOOAP.
A bizarre aspect of fame is that the celebrity does not always choose the events that make him famous. In the case of Ryan Shupe, fame found him for his silvery voice and overlooked his heart of gold.
Although music has been a love for years, Ryan’s secret passion has been MOOAP, a program he designed to give orphaned monkeys and orangutans homes in civilized countries, in loving homes, as part of stable families.
MOOAP, or Monkey & Orangutan Orphan Adoption Program, was born after a terrifically adventuresome journey into the Congo. While the original purpose of the trip was to acquire a trophy lion to be stuffed and placed in his study, his native guide, MmBop, recognized Ryan’s capacity for compassion and introduced him to the local monkey population that lived just outside the village.
“I was appalled at the conditions these monkeys are forced to live in,” said Shupe in a recent interview. “I just felt horrible when I saw how uncivilized their environment was: no homes to speak of, no running water, no electricity. I mean, they slept in trees for crying out loud! And they just had to eat whatever they could find in the forest – leaves and bugs and stuff. I said, ‘this has to change’”.
And thus MOOAP was created, an organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for monkeys and orangutans around the world. MOOAP places mans nearest relative in mans extra bedroom, where they can begin to adopt the civilized lifestyle they have been denied for too long.
Ryan’s own adoptee, Lucy, has been a member of the family for nearly a decade now. Once she was liberated of her primitive jungle habitat, she began to flourish and develop at an unprecedented rate. She has developed astounding abilities hitherto unseen in primate research; she can make waffles, she can mow grass, she can discern between Hostess and Little Debbie with 97% accuracy, and she chooses her own outfits. She attends church, likes The Office, and is a registered Republican. It’s rumored that she may even deserve a co-write credit for her contribution to “Banjo Boy”, a claim that Ryan vehemently denies.
“We’ve been so thrilled to have Lucy with us for all these years” says Ryan. “I shudder to think of where she would be if we had left her in the jungle.” When asked about the future of MOOAP, Ryan said “Well, MOOAP isn’t strictly a non-profit organization, per-se, so we’re hoping to grow it as much as possible. You know, for the monkeys.”
Ryan Shupe has raised the bar for anyone hoping to make a difference in the world. Contributions to MOOAP can be made in person to any member of Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand at their concerts, where you will receive a special MOOAP Membership Sticker and a free download of Lucy singing “Dream Big” with the band.

Candycorn banned from RS&RB Greenrooms
After years and years of hiding an extreme dislike for candycorn, Ryan Shupe has had enough.
Candycorn is now banned from the RubberBand bus, greenroom, and Shupe home on Halloween. When questioned, Shupe stated "I'm not just going to eat something because it's 'what people do'. I'm not going to succumb to holiday pressures."
"I also don't like watermelon", Shupe was heard to say.
